Tool Steels
Finding the correct steel to meet the needs of your application can be a daunting task. With so many options it can be difficult to decipher the jargon and get what you need. At Midwest Knife we have more than just technical knowledge, we have experience with many kinds of steels.
For most customers, the standard D-2 Tool Steel is the best option. If you are experiencing a medium impact application, consider Modified A-8. For increased wear resistance, consider trying Cru-Wear® or CPM®10V®. Each steel has its pro’s and con’s. Let us help decipher and get you the product to keep your blades in the machine longer, with less time performing blade changes.
For our customers grinding glass-filled material, before switching materials, perhaps consider using Carbide Spray Coating to increase the life of your knives. Sometimes glass filled material can dull knives so heavily that to produce a sharp edge it requires more material to be ground off than is preferred. Carbide Spray Coat helps protect against the excessive erosion caused by glass filled materials, which means your knives cutting edge has more time to do just that – CUT!
